'I Lacked Professionalism..': Virat Kohli's Honest Confession, Reveals His 'Single Minded Focus' During World Cup
Virat Kohli admits he lacked professionalism earlier in his career, but made plenty of changes to transform himself into one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

Virat Kohli has revealed his ‘single-minded focus’ during the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023, before hinting how he has made plenty of sacrifices in his career that helped his transformation into one of the best cricketers of all time.

Kohli has been in red-hot form during the ongoing World Cup in India, helping the Rohit Sharma-led unit to six wins in the six group-stage games so far. While Virat is nearing Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 hundreds in ODI cricket, he said that he had never thought about the records and numbers.

The 34-year-old asserted that all he wanted was to contribute to help the Indian team win games in difficult situations, as seen against Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand.

“My only focus was that I should perform well for the team, and win games for the team from difficult situations,” Virat Kohli told Star Sports.

The talismanic batter admitted that he lacked professionalism earlier in his career, but made plenty of his change to himself to prolong his playing days.

“For that I made quite a few changes along the way regarding discipline and lifestyle. I always had the drive in me, but I lacked the professionalism. Now I have a single-minded focus on how I want to play the game, and after that the results I’ve achieved is from playing that way itself. The game recognises effort,” Kohli stated further.

The former Indian captain has scored 354 runs in six outings during the World Cup so far, but he admitted that he had never imagined that he would end up scoring so many runs and hundreds in his 12-year career.

“Honestly that’s what I have learnt from my career. I’ve played cricket by giving my hundred percent on the field, and the blessings I have got from it have been given to me by God, and I had never thought things would have unfolded this way,” Virat added.

Virat Kohli and the Indian team will return to action on Thursday in their next World Cup outing against familiar foes Sri Lanka. The two sides will renew their rivalry at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the 2011 final was played between these two sides.

In the last match between India and Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue ran rampant as they bowled out the Lankans for a mere 50-run total thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s five-for, as Rohit and Co. won a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title earlier in September.
