Humans of New York founder reacts after Humans of Bombay files a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against an online storytelling portal 'People of India'.

Humans of Bombay recently filed a lawsuit in the Delhi High Court against an online storytelling portal ‘People of India’ for copyright infringement. For those who don’t know, Humans of Bombay is an Indian photoblog website which has the best and most wholesome stories about the people residing in the metropolitan city. The popularity of all digital platforms of Humans of Bombay remains uncontested, but it is the stories that set it apart. It covers a mixed bag of stories that best emulate the spirit of the city. The platform was started as a Facebook Page in 2014 by founder Karishma Mehta.

Humans of New York founder Brandon Stanton took to ‘X’ and shared his opinion on the India-based storytelling. He criticised the company for filing a lawsuit against another storytelling platform and accused them of copying his own

initiative.

“I’ve stayed quiet on the appropriation of my work because I think @HumansOfBombay shares important stories, even if they’ve monetised far past anything I’d feel comfortable doing on HONY. But you can’t be suing people for what I’ve forgiven you for,” he wrote in the post.

He claimed that HOB can not sue people for doing something that he forgave them. Brandon’s post has garnered global attention. Many people were seen sharing their own opinions. “this is not done. You must drop the lawsuit. If you’ve taken inspiration from Humans Of New York and they have been kind, you must afford the same liberty to others,” wrote an X user.

Meanwhile, earlier, a video showed HOB founder Karishma Mehta talking about her ‘privilege’. The video became a reason for her being trolled. She says, “I am privileged..in the sense that I come from a family that sent me abroad to study, that invested a lot in my education.” She also explained how she started Humans of Bombay with a loan worth Rs 1 Lakh. The thought did not go that well with people on ‘X’ and soon she became the target of trollers.
