As the iPhone 15 series prepares to launch in a few days, featuring the rumored USB-C port as part of an effort to comply with EU regulations and move away from the Lightning connector, it is expected that its supporting accessories will also transition to USB-C in the near future, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
According to a MacRumors report, Mark Gurman has suggested that Apple will quickly shift supporting accessories, such as AirPods and Mac accessories, to USB-C. “They’re going to need to release a new MagSafe Duo with USB-C,” Gurman was quoted as saying by MacRumors. He also mentioned that Apple “certainly can update the MagSafe battery pack” to use USB-C.
It remains uncertain when these USB-C-equipped accessories will be launched, if at all, or at the upcoming Apple ‘Wonderlust’ event. However, with rumours of the second-generation AirPods Pro switching to USB-C, it would be logical for Apple to offer other products with the same port.
Notably, several popular accessories, such as the Apple Magic Mouse and the first-generation Apple Pencil, currently come with a Lightning connector.
Gurman also mentioned that a new MagSafe Battery Pack is in development but not yet ready for launch. He noted that it might enable users to charge two different devices simultaneously on two different sides of the Battery Pack.
With that said, the USB-C-equipped iPhone 15 series is scheduled to launch on September 12. During the event, Apple may also introduce the second generation of the Apple Watch Ultra and the Apple Watch Series 9. Additionally, there are rumours of Apple unveiling a new USB-C case for the second-generation AirPods Pro.
