Shah Rukh Khan Reveals How He Bagged Dunki: 'Maine Rajkumar Hirani Ke Ghar Ke Aage Tent...'

One year back, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani had dropped the announcement video of Dunki. In the clip, Shah Rukh could be seen asking the filmmaker if he has a good script for him. Cut to a year later and the Dunki teaser has released and the film is not too far away from theatrical release. During an Ask SRK session on X, a fan asked Shah Rukh Khan if he approached the filmmaker or what it the other way round.

The fan tweeted, “Iss baar Rajkumar Hirani sir ne aapko approach kiya ya phir aapne hirani sir ko”. To this, Shah Rukh Khan, in his inimitable humourous way, said, “Maine @RajkumarHirani ke ghar ke aage tent laga liya tha. Wahin kahaani bhi suni aur wahin sign bhi kar li. Editing bhi wahin chal rahi hai!!! (I had set up a tent in front of @RajkumarHirani’s house in Maine. I heard the story there and also signed. Editing is also happening there).”

Shah Rukh Khan was first offered the character of Rancho. But he turned down the offer citing date issues and the role went to Aamir. Since then, Shah Rukh has harboured a desire to work with Rajkumar Hirani.

During the AskSRK session another fan asked King Khan if Dunki will have a romantic track too. To this, Shah Rukh replied saying, “Aayega aayega abhi Lutt Putt raho baad mein romance bhi aayega. Aise hi thodi @RajkumarHirani aapko rehne dega. Naya saal naya pyaar. #Dunki”
