The Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, brings George RR Martin’s epic novel, Fire and Blood, to life. Despite initial scepticism following the controversial GoT conclusion, House of the Dragon not only surpassed expectations but also garnered historic viewership. With two Golden Globes and numerous Emmy nominations, the show achieved remarkable success. As fans eagerly anticipate Season 2, scheduled for a 2024 premiere, the wait may be shorter than expected, thanks to Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Targaryen. In an interview on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, Smith hinted at House of the Dragon Season 2 arriving in August 2024.
In response to the Radio 2 host’s inquiry about the return of the series, Smith shared, “August, I think. This summer, yeah.” The former Doctor Who star went on to disclose that despite wrapping up filming last year, the upcoming instalment is still in the post-production stage. “I’ve not seen any of it yet, but we finished it last year. So we’ve gotta do all the ADR and all that business,” he explained.
Further, Matt Smith expressed relief seeing the positive reaction to House of the Dragon’s first season. However, Smith remains cautiously confident about the future.
As House of the Dragon gears up for its second season, a star-studded cast, including Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, is set to return to the Seven Kingdoms. Alongside them, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans and others will reprise their roles. The new cast includes Freddie Fox, Abubakar Salim, Simon Russell Beale and Rankin. However, Paddy Considine will not return as King Viserys, as his character tragically died in episode eight of the first season.
After the first season’s surprising conclusion with 10 episodes, Season 2 is set to charm audiences with a short yet impactful eight episodes. Director Claire Kilner shared insights into the creative decision, stating, “There are eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour.” As per Kilner, showrunner Ryan Condall wants to provide viewers with a gripping opening and closing, ensuring each episode is packed with emotional and visually thrilling events.
As per Dexerto reports, Season 2 will have intense and impactful moments along with a part just like the infamous and gory, Red Wedding.
