Why Thalapathy Vijay Rejected Praveenkanth's 1999 Film Jodi
Jodi was a commercial success at the box office. Vijayakumar, Nassar and others also acted in the film.

Thalapathy Vijay is currently one of the critically acclaimed actresses of the Tamil cinema. He has won adulation from the audience for his films Mersal, Master and others. Vijay has also rejected many films in his career including the 1999 release Jodi, directed by Praveenkanth.

According to reports, Vijay was the first choice of Praveenkanth to play the role of the male lead. Vijay, however, couldn’t reportedly act in the film because he couldn’t allot time for it in his call sheet. It was then that Prashanth came to the foray and ended up playing the lead role in this film produced by Soni Orient. Jodi was a commercial success at the box office. Simran, Vijayakumar, Nassar and others also acted in the film.

Coming back to Vijay, he recently launched his political party Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), which translates to Tamil Nadu’s Victory Party. He shared the news on Twitter. In his statement, Vijay emphasised the need for political power to perform social work more effectively. As per Vijay, there is a need for political power despite the ongoing efforts of his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. Vijay has also mentioned he’ll quit films.

“Politics is not just another career for me. It is a sacred people’s work. I have been preparing myself for it for a long time. Politics is not a hobby for me. That is my deepest desire. I want to fully involve myself in it,” the Master actor said in the statement.

As of now, Vijay is filming for The Greatest of All Time aka GOAT. Venkat Prabhu has written and directed this film. It is reportedly slated to be released on the big screens in June or late 2024. Jayaram, Prabhu Deva, Yogi Babu, and others will also act in The Greatest of All Time. AGS Entertainment has backed this film. The film will feature Vijay in a dual role and is reported to be a scientific fiction film. GOAT is reportedly based on notorious plane hijacker DB Cooper. In 1971, DB Cooper parachuted from a Boeing 727 midflight before disappearing.
