A week after the birth of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter, Radhya Bachchan, in November 2011, the family returned home from the Mumbai hospital where Aishwarya had given birth. To address the media’s curiosity while maintaining their privacy, the Bachchans held a press conference at their office, ABC Corp, located in Mumbai’s Juhu area. Amitabh Bachchan, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the media for respecting their privacy during such a “private” time.
When asked about their newborn daughter, who hadn’t been named yet, Amitabh revealed that the family’s first trip with her was to Pratiksha, their home in Mumbai, which holds a special place in their hearts as their first residence.
“We first took her to Pratiksha because that is our first home. After taking blessings from my ma and babuji (Amitabh’s parents), we have come to Jalsa,” Amitabh said, as per Rediff. Abhishek added, “We have a small mandir in Pratiksha, built by my grandfather. That was the first place we took her.”
Reflecting on who the child resembled, the proud grandfather, with a smile, shared that he believed the little one looked like Aishwarya. “I think the child looks like Aishwarya but as you know, a child’s face changes everyday. Still, I want to believe that she has Aishwarya’s face,” Amitabh said. “But a few people in the house believe that there is some resemblance with Abhishek,” he added.
Opening up on welcoming a granddaughter, Amitabh Bachchan said Abhishek and Jaya Bachchan wanted a girl child. He said, “Jaya has given all her time to the child and she is very happy that a daughter has been born. Abhishek also wanted a daughter. I have said I don’t mind anything happening, just let it happen. That’s it.”
Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s love story started as friends while working on films like Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) and Kuch Naa Kaho (2003). Their friendship turned into romance during the filming of Umrao Jaan in 2005-2006. The couple tied the knot on April 20, 2007, in a grand wedding ceremony.
Before her marriage, Aishwarya had made headlines for her relationships with Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi. In 2011, Abhishek and Aishwarya welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan.
Recently, Aishwarya has often been seen solo or accompanied by her daughter, sparking rumors of an impending separation between her and Abhishek. However, neither Aishwarya nor Abhishek have addressed the speculation, and the Bachchan family has yet to make any official statement on the matter.
