Vijay Varma admitted he was bothered by how his negative roles have impacted how people see him in real life. At the grand launch of SCREEN in Mumbai on Friday, Vijay opened up about how “pretty girls and their mothers” have confessed to being scared of him, something that has unsettled him. Known for his villainous characters in Darlings, Pink and the OTT series Dahaad, Vijay shared that playing these “diabolical men” started with Pink. He recalled how that role, though minor, left a mark, especially at an all-women screening where he encountered actresses he had admired.

He said, “Lots of pretty girls and their mothers have told me they are scared of me, and it did bother me. The introduction of extremely diabolical men that I played started with Pink. It was a minor part, but I remember it vividly because it was an all-women screening. All the actresses were present, and I recall seeing people I had only watched on screen before.”

Vijay Varma talked about meeting singer Sunidhi Chauhan at the Pink screening. He said that after the movie screening, some people were crying. “Before the screening, everyone was happy, but by the end, some were crying and some didn’t want to leave. I tried to console Sunidhi Chauhan, but she told me, ‘Don’t come near me. I’m very scared of you.’ I was like, ‘Oh my god, what just happened?’ Then the director pulled me aside and told me I did a good job.”

Vijay Varma’s big break came with his role as Moeen in Gully Boy (2019), which brought him a lot of attention. After that, he became known for playing intense characters in projects like Darlings (2022), She, Mirzapur, and the series Dahaad (2023), where he portrayed a serial killer. His performances in these roles have solidified his place as a rising star in the industry.

Recently, Vijay played a pivotal part in the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. It is based on true events that took place during the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814. The miniseries is based on the book Flight into Fear: A Captain’s Story by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury. Vijay played Captain Devi Sharan in the series.

On the personal front, Vijay Varma is dating actress Tamannaah Bhatia.
