Even though the social media platforms were full of congratulatory messages and thank you notes, the ceremony, however, got many talking about the existing nepotism and the favouritism in the industry.

The 64th National Film Awards were announced on Friday to honour the best of Indian cinema of the year 2016. Even though the social media platforms were full of congratulatory messages and thank you notes, the ceremony, however, got many talking about the existing nepotism and the favouritism in the industry.

Akshay Kumar's Best Actor for Rustom win is being attributed to his closeness with the chairperson of the feature film section Priyadarshan.

The filmmaker has often collaborated with Kumar in films like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhaag, Bhool Bhulaiya, De Dana Dan and Khatta Meetha.

The announcement of the special jury award for Mohanlal further got Priyadarshan into the limelight as the two have often united for onscreen projects.

Many Twitter users including KRK are expressing their disappointment over the selected finalists and some are even asking Priyadarshan to "get well soon".

In an interview post the announcement, Priyadarshan responded to the allegations and said, "I have heard of all that and I will answer it in a simple way. When Ramesh Sippy was jury head Amitabh Bachchan won. When Prakash Jha was head of jury, Ajay Devgn won."
