Twinkle Khanna is back with her new column for The Times of India, tackling everything from noise pollution to waterlogging and those oh-so-‘precious’ potholes. In her trademark witty style, Twinkle, famous for her hilarious Instagram captions, shines the spotlight on Bollywood’s forever ‘Dream Girl’ — Hema Malini. She even draws a cheeky comparison between the iconic actress and her own mom, veteran star Dimple Kapadia. Twinkle jokingly recalled how a recent drip from her water purifier made her think of Hema ji, writing, “No one in the country is more interested in giving India clean water than Hema ji.”
She wrote, “After endorsing water purifiers for years, she is now performing a dance ballet on the shores of the Ganga to spread a message to keep our rivers clean. But will our citizens listen to her appeal, or will it be a case of you can lead a horse to the jal (water), but you can’t make him drink?”
Twinkle mentioned how she recently told her mom, actress Dimple Kapadia, about her pet peeves, like people littering on the roads and how “fellow Indians” seem to have no problem spitting out paan on street corners.
As Twinkle complained to Dimple about the country lacking ‘clean roads, water, air or even basic harmony’, Dimple Kapadia said that ‘there was less noise pollution during the Ganpati processions than what she was doing right now.’ Twinkle continued, “This is not the first time I have wished that Hema Malini was my mother instead. Not only could we discuss clean water at length, but I would also receive a lifetime supply of free water purifiers.”
Twinkle Khanna is the daughter of Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna. She has a sister, Rinke Khanna. Hema Malini, married to Dharmendra, has two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Dharmendra was earlier married to Prakash Kaur.
