The son of superstar Nagarjuna and Amala, Akhil Akkineni was thought to become the next big thing in the film industry after his performance as a child artist in the film Sisindri in 1995. It was an Indian adaptation of the Hollywood film Baby’s Day Out. It was directed by Siva Nageswara Rao and produced by the superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni. Apart from Akhil, actors Giri Babu, Tanikella Bharani, Sudhakar, Aamani, and Sarath Babu in prominent roles. His performance was appreciated by the audience and the critics. He was even awarded the Filmfare Special Award for the film. Touted to be the next superstar, the actor failed to fulfil the expectations of his fans. In his career of 9 years in the film industry in a lead role, the actor gave only one hit. His previous film, Agent, was the biggest flop of his career.
Before starting his career as a lead actor, Akhil Akkineni did a cameo in the film Manam. He debuted as a lead in 2015 with Akhil. His performance was praised, but the film failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a disaster at the box office. It reportedly grossed an overall loss of Rs 22.2 crore.
After this, Akhil’s next two films, Hello and Mr Majnu, also proved to flop at the box office. He got his first box office success from the film Most Eligible Bachelor in 2021. Made under the direction of Bommarillu Bhaskar under the banner of Geetha Arts, the venture turned out to be the actor’s first hit as the protagonist. With an overall collection of Rs. 24.14 crore, the movie garnered a profit of Rs. 5.64 crore. It was the first and last for the actor till now.
Last year in 2023, Akhil Akkineni worked in the film ‘Agent’, which was made on a budget of 65 crores. But this film also could not do anything special at the box office. Agent earned Rs 6.5 crore worldwide. The film proved to be a commercial failure at the box office, grossing a loss of around Rs 30 crore. It was directed by Surender Reddy.
Despite giving only one hit film in the 9-years of film career, Akhil Akkineni charges a hefty fee from the makers. According to media reports, Akhil charges Rs 7 crore for a film and his total net worth is Rs 66 crore.
