Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah have joined forces as judges on the latest season of the singing reality show Indian Idol. Both artists have established themselves as prominent figures in the music industry, boasting a massive fan base. In a recent interview, they acknowledged their admiration for other celebrated performers in the industry, specifically praising Diljit Dosanjh. Badshah described him as an “honest person,” while Shreya appreciated his sense of humour.
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah discussed several established singers in the industry, with particular praise for Diljit Dosanjh. When asked about the qualities they admire and wish to emulate, Shreya expressed her admiration for Diljit’s energy, saying, “Mujhey Diljit Dosanjh ka sense of humour bhi sahi lagta hai. I want to steal that. He is always funny.” Badshah concurred, noting that Diljit is “effortlessly funny” and honest. The rapper also referred to Diljit as ‘khoobsurat insaan’. He added, “Kuch bhi chura lo inse vo value addition hoga.” Most recently, Badshah and Diljit worked on the song Naina for the film Crew.
Badshah further emphasised that even a mere five minutes with artists like Arijit Singh, A.R. Rahman or Sonu Nigam is incredibly valuable.
Meanwhile, speaking about judging Indian Idol along with Vishal Dadlani during the interview, both Shreya and Badshah admitted that the singer-songwriter is extremely honest during auditions. Shreya noted, “The thing is Vishal is brutally honest, which is needed. Music mein honesty nahi hogi na, toh uska wo apne bubble mein reh ke koi fayda nahi. They really need to know, karwa saach toh sunna padhega. (If there’s no honesty in music, then staying in their own bubble is pointless. They really need to hear the harsh truth).”
However, Shreya acknowledged that many contestants often feel quite nervous. She noted the lengthy journey they undertake, travelling from far and wide, catching buses and waiting in long queues for their chance to audition. Ultimately, she emphasised that they must confront the reality of the competition.
Indian Idol 15 premieres on October 26 and airs every Saturday at 9 p.m. on Sony TV.
