Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden kicked off the Citadel universe with a bang and the franchise is expanding. Season 2 of the original series was officially announced in May. Meanwhile, recent reports from Variety reveal that Rahul Kohli, Merle Dandridge and Michael Trucco will be joining the lead cast in important roles. Dandridge, known for her award-winning role as Marlene in The Last of Us, will bring her star power to the series. Rahul Kohli is best known for his work in iZombie and Michael Trucco appeared in The Fall of The House of Usher and Hush.
Speaking to the portal, executive producer and chief creative officer of series producer AGBO Angela Russo-Otstot said, “The second season will build on the intense action and complex characters introduced in the first season, promising even more thrilling twists and intrigue. Also, the recently announced Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny, from Italy and India respectively, further expand the storytelling and scope born from the world of Citadel.”
Other than Rahul Kohli, Merle Dandridge and Michael Trucco, the cast of Citadel Season 2 will also feature Matt Berry, Gabriel Leone and Jack Reynor. While Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra, Stanley Tucci and Lesley Manville will reprise their characters.
According to Deadline, Citadel was renewed for a second season due to its strong viewership. When Season 1 premiered, it became Amazon Prime’s second most-watched show outside the US, after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and the fourth most-watched show globally.
While viewers wait for season 2, Citadel: Diana featuring Matilda De Angelis as Diana Cavalieri and Citadel: Honey Bunny, with Varun Dhawan and Samantha, keep audiences entertained. The two shows will be set in Italy and Mumbai, India respectively.
Citadel Season 2 is set to go on floors later this year. While David Weil will continue as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Anthony and Joe Russo, as executive producers. Joe Russo will also be directing the entire season, while the first season had multiple directors, including, Jessica Yu, Newton Thomas Sigel, Brian Kirk, as well as the Russo brothers.
