Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akineni entered the Telugu film industry as the successors of actor Nagarjuna. Sharing similarities, both actors faced flops in the initial phases of their film careers.
Akhil Akkineni debuted in the lead role in the film Akhil whereas Naga Chaitanya’s first debut lead role came with the film Josh. Both were commercially unsuccessful at the box office. Sharing the acting genes of Nagarjuna, Akhil Akkineni has been unable to make a name for himself in the film industry. Many fans often wonder why Akhil Akkineni doesn’t have a Naga in his name while his half-brother Chaitanya uses one.
The Akkinenis are one of the influential families in showbiz. Father of Nagarjuna and grandfather of Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) formed the base of the family with his illustrious career in the Telugu film industry during the 1950s.
After Nageswara Rao, his son Nagarjuna entered the film industry. Nagarjuna, who started his career with the film Vikrma did not taste success in his first film. It was released in 1986. Three years later, Nagarjuna gave a superhit in collaboration with Ram Gopal Varma. The film was titled Siva. It was the highest-grossing Telugu film that year. Nagarjuna never looked back after that film. His two sons- Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, from different wives followed in the footsteps of their father to debut in the film industry.
However, Akkineni fans have a doubt. A question arises as to why the descendants of the Akkineni family have Naga before their names. Clearing this doubt, Nagarjuna explained in an interview why his family name before him is ‘Naga’ and Akil Akkineni doesn’t put Naga in his first name.
He said that his mother used to see snakes in her dreams when she was pregnant. Apart from this, they used to perform special pujas to Naga Devata. He said that the children born in their family should be named Naga. Nageswara Rao named his son Nagarjuna.
After that Nagarjuna named his son Naga Chaitanya. The actor also clarified why Akhil was not named Naga alone. He said that he thought of naming only his first son Naga i.e. Naga Chaitanya.
