Masaba Calls Neena Gupta The 'Coolest Nani' Ever After Her National Award Win

Masaba Gupta is proud of her mother Neena Gupta. The legendary actress won a National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 2022 film Uunchai. Overjoyed by her mother’s accomplishment, Masaba, who is expecting her first child, soon shared that she already has a favourite story to tell her baby.

Sharing pictures of Neena receiving a National Award, Masaba wrote, “Will tell my baby NaniJi is the coolest and has been winning National Awards since 1994 with flowers in her hair.” The actress wore a pink saree and a halter-neck pink blouse to the ceremony, which took place on October 8 in Delhi. She finished the ensemble with a matching flower in her hair. Neena Gupta received her first National Award for Bazar Sitaram (1993) in the Best First Non-Feature Film of a Director category. A year later, she received the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for Woh Chokri (1994).

The actress also acknowledged her win at the National Awards 2024 on Instagram. She shared pictures from the event and wrote, “Honoured to receive my fourth national award from the honourable President of India, Droupadi Murmu.”

Talking about her big win, Neena in an exclusive interview with News 18 said, “I was happily surprised. I told my manager to reconfirm it. It has now sunk in, and I feel really good. This proves that if you really work hard, you’ll get something truly rewarding in return.”

Apart from this, director Soora Barjatya received a National Film Award for Best Direction for his work on the film. Sharing her excitement about the same, the actress said, “I was even more thrilled when I came to know that Sooraj ji won the Best Director award. I have great respect for him. It was a dream come true when he called me and offered me a role.” She also added how Masaba is taking her for lunch to celebrate and that Masaba also wants someone to throw her a party given this is a big achievement for her.

Uunchai followed three old friends as they embarked on a hike to Everest Base Camp. The film also featured Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Sarika, Danny Denzongpa, Boma Irani and Parineeti Chopra in key roles.
