In the wake of the controversy over Sonu Nigam's tweet on 'forced religiousness', singer and music composer Wajid Khan has now expressed his opinion.
Wajid Khan took to Twitter and said that he's hurt by his brother Sonu's words.
"I'm hurt as my dearest brother @sonunigam tweeted such words about #Azaan n not being a Muslim #Gundagiri knowing U never expected ths not U," he wrote.

He further added that one can express their point of view but they should do so without hurting other people's sentiments.

To this, Sonu asked Wajid to "stop being a Muslim and simply be a citizen of India."
Dear @wajidkhan7. If for once u stop being a Muslim & simply be a Citizen of India, u will see what everyone is truly talking about. Love https://t.co/AmX7qXHW13— Sonu Nigam (@sonunigam) April 18, 2017
Wajid then responded to Sonu's tweet and said, "Bhai @sonunigam I'm proud of my faith n my identity as an Indian. If it was abt loudspeakers then it should've been only abt loudspeaker."

Earlier Sonu had expressed his anger over being "woken up by the Azaan in the morning" despite him not being a Muslim. He later clarified that it was about loudspeakers and that he didn't intend to attack any particular religion. While many agreed and maintained a healthy debate over the use of loudspeakers at praying places, some criticised the singer for targeting a particular religion.
Many other celebrities including Sunil Grover, Vivek Aginihotri and Aman Yatan Verma voiced their opinions on Twitter.
What happened to Bollywood's champions of free speech? Because @sonunigam is not a sycophant of your club, so no support to him. #Hypocrites— Vivek Agnihotri (@vivekagnihotri) April 19, 2017
Wondering why the issue with @sonunigam statement ? Doesn't matter what religion u r from. Religion celebrations stay indoors. PERIOD— Aman Yatan Verma (@AmanYatanVerma) April 18, 2017
