Varun Dhawan, one of Bollywood’s busiest stars, has been making headlines with his packed schedule and upcoming projects. Among the most exciting news is his rumored involvement in the highly anticipated sequel to the 1997 blockbuster ‘Border’. The film, titled ‘Border 2’, is expected to see Varun joining forces with Sunny Deol, who famously played a key role in the original. Adding fuel to the excitement, Sunny Deol has now officially welcomed Varun to the project through a celebratory Instagram post, confirming their collaboration.
In an Instagram video shared by Sunny Deol on Friday, the anticipation for ‘Border 2’ reached new heights with the bold statement, “India’s Biggest War Film Gets Bigger.” The clip begins with nostalgic snippets from the original ‘Border’ film, set against the hauntingly powerful voice of Sonu Nigam singing the iconic “Sandese Aate Hai.” As the music fades, Varun Dhawan’s intense voiceover takes center stage: “Dushman Ki Har Goli Se, Jai Hind Bol Ke Takrata Hun. Jab Dharti Maa Bulati Hai, Sab Chodh Ke Aata Hun. Hindustan Ka Fauji Hu Main.” As these words resonate, the screen flashes the message, “Welcome Varun Dhawan to ‘Border 2’.” The actor shared the video with the caption, “Welcoming Fauji Varun Dhawan to the battalion of ‘Border 2’ .”

The much-anticipated sequel ‘Border 2’ is set to be directed by Anurag Singh, renowned for his work on the Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Kesari’ (2019), which depicted the historic Battle of Saragarhi where 21 Sikh soldiers valiantly faced off against 10,000 Afghans in 1897.
‘Border 2’ follows in the footsteps of J.P. Dutta’s iconic 1997 blockbuster ‘Border’, which also starred Sunny Deol. The original film, set against the backdrop of the 1971 Longewala battle, showcased a small battalion of Indian soldiers defending against a large Pakistani strike force.
The sequel is being brought to life by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, and J.P. Dutta’s J.P. Films, with production by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta. The film is slated for a grand release on January 23, 2026, strategically timed to coincide with the Republic Day holiday.
Varun Dhawan, who has been busy with recent projects like ‘Bawaal’ and ‘Bhediya’, and has the upcoming Prime Video series ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’, will join the cast. Meanwhile, Sunny Deol, who recently saw massive success with ‘Gadar 2’ in 2023, will reprise his role in the sequel.
J.P. Dutta, often hailed as Bollywood’s war film maestro, has dedicated much of his career to military-themed films. After initially focusing on stories from western India’s Rajput community, Dutta shifted to creating powerful war dramas like ‘Border’, ‘LOC: Kargil’ (2003), which portrayed the 1999 Kargil War, and ‘Paltan’ (2018), set during the 1967 India-China border conflict. ‘Border 2’ promises to be another epic addition to his legacy.
