In states like Jharkhand and Bihar, a special type of vrat, known as the Jitiya vrat is popular among mothers. Going by the information given, the vrat takes place on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the Ashwin month. It ends on the occasion of Navami. According to Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, a famous astrologer from Deoghar, Jharkhand, mothers tend to avoid drinking water for over a day during this fast, only for the long life of their children. The vrat involves the worship of Jimutavahana, who is believed to be a Gandharva Prince.
The beliefs state that the mother who observes this vrat, their child is protected from any bad or dangerous circumstance. It states further that a mother will never be separated from her child. It also ensures prosperity and happiness in a child’s life. Providing more details on the vrat, Pandit Nandkishore says that this year, the Jitiya Vrat will be observed on September 25, while the bathing timings will fall on September 24. On September 26, the mothers will open the fast.
According to the astrologers, the Jitiya vrat commences during the Ashtami date. This year, the Ashtami timings are starting from 5:57 pm on September 24, Tuesday. It means that the mothers planning to fast, can eat till the mentioned timings. The eighth day of Krishna Paksha is expected to end on September 25 at 6:12 pm.
