What is Gupta Navratri?

According to the Hindu calendar, Navratri falls in the four holy months of the year. These four months are Magh, Chaitra, Ashadh and Ashwin.

Navratri in the month of Chaitra is called Basant Navratri and Navratri in the month of Ashwin is called Shardiya Navratri. There are 6 months between these two festivals. The remaining two Navratri of the months of Ashadha and Magh are called Gupt Navratri.

When will Gupt Navratri 2024 begin?

July 8, Monday – Goddess Chandraghanta is worshipped on the third day of Gupt Navratri in the month of Ashadha.

July 9, Tuesday – This is the Chaturthi date of Gupt Navratri. There is a ritual for Goddess Kushmanda on this day.

July 10, Wednesday – This day is also the Chaturthi date of Gupt Navratri. Since Chaturthi Tithi lasts for 2 days, this Navratri is considered to be 10 days.

July 11, Thursday – Goddess Skandamata is worshipped on the fifth day of Gupt Navratri.

July 12, Friday – This day is the Shashti Tithi of Gupt Navratri. Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on this day.

July 13, Saturday – It is traditional to worship Goddess Kalratri on the seventh day of Gupt Navratri in the month of Ashadha.

July 14, Sunday – This day is the Ashtami Tithi of Gupt Navratri in the month of Ashadh. Goddess Mahagauri is worshipped on this day.

July 15, Monday – This is the last day of Gupt Navratri. Goddess Siddhidatri is mainly worshipped on this day.

Gupt means hidden. On this Navratri, sadhana is performed to acquire secret knowledge. Tantra Sadhanas are important in Gupt Navratri and are conducted in secret. That is why it is called Gupt Navratri.

Special wishes of the devotees are fulfilled in this festival. It is called Gupt Navratri either because the seekers know it or because it is secret and not meant to be shared with everyone.
