My Name Is Loh Kiwan’s trailer offers viewers a glimpse into the life of Loh Kiwan who escapes the autocracy of North Korea and lands in Belgium.

The first official trailer and poster of Netflix’s much-awaited film My Name Is Loh Kiwan was unveiled on February 16. Directed by Kim Hee-jin, the emotional romance drama stars Song Joong-Ki as the titular character and Choi Sung-eun as a mysterious woman Mari, in lead roles. Song Joong-Ki plays the role of a North Korean defector, trapped in a cold and ruthless world, struggling to survive. The official teaser of My Name Is Loh Kiwan was dropped on February 1, sparking intrigue among K-drama lovers. Now, with the release of the trailer, the masses are waiting with bated breaths for the film to release on March 1.

The trailer offers viewers a glimpse into the life of Loh Kiwan who escapes the autocracy of North Korea and lands up in Belgium. Receiving a refugee status is his only hope to survive in the city which makes him feel unwelcome and difficult to live in. “My name is Loh Kiwan. I came this far by promising myself that I would endure and overcome whatever I experience in this land," he says while stealing money from a gambling table to fill his empty stomach. Exhausted and desperate, Loh Kiwan leaves no stone unturned to obtain refugee status, undergoing repeated screenings.

In a shift of scenes, Loh Kiwan is seen lying unconscious on the streets when Mari steals his wallet. Mari portrayed to be a mentally unstable woman who has lost her will to live stumbles upon Loh Kiwan at a police station. During their conversation, Loh Kiwan reveals that the money in the wallet is the last resort that he received after selling his mother’s corpse. Mari, who also lost her mother finds herself drawn toward Loh Kiwan, finding him similar yet different from her. The trailer is interspersed with intense sequences, the fight for survival, and a unique love story between two contrasting individuals sharing a traumatic past. The trailer ends with Loh Kiwan facing Mari amidst a grim cityscape asking, “Does someone like me even deserve happiness?"

The poster of My Name Is Loh Kiwan comes with the tagline “Unfamiliar land. Daunting life." Besides Song Joong-Ki and Choi Sung-eun, the film also stars Lee Sang-hee, Seo Hyun-woo, Lee Il-hwa, Jo Han-chul, and Kaan Abdullah in important roles.
