New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday gave clear hints that there was no room for young party leaders in the Union Council of Ministers as of now.
Agreeing with his mother's take on the issue, Rahul Gandhi said that he would like to "wait and learn" before taking up a position of responsiblity.
"I am not saying they are not doing very much. But I feel that they can certainly do a little more, wait a little more and gain a little more experience in Parliament," she said in an interview to a television channel when asked about young party leaders not being made ministers.
She also told the questioner that what has also to be kept in mind was that the Congress is working in a coalition and therefore "we do not have that many ministries at our own disposal to give to our colleagues."
"That number is restricted. So even if I would like to do so, circumstances do not permit me to do so", she said.
To a question whether that applied to a person whose surname is Gandhi, she said that Rahul himself has said on a number of occasions that he would rather like to "wait and learn before taking up a position of responsibility".
Besides Rahul, there are a number of young MPs of Congress who included Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad, Navin Jindal, Dipendra Singh Hooda, Madhu Yakshi Goud, Kuldeep Bishnoi and Milind Deora.
