New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Saturday said that the bounced cheque of Rs 10,000 given to a farmer's widow in Maharashtra was issued by mistake under the PM's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) instead of from the Chief Minister's Fund.
"It is hereby clarified that instead of issuing a cheque from CM's Relief Fund, under which funds were available with district authorities, a cheque was issued under PMNRF by mistake," PTI quoted PM's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru as saying.
“District officials issued the wrong cheque, even after the Rs 50 lakh provided by PMO under PMNRF had been fully disbursed, “ he added.
"According to information provided by the district collector, Yavatmal district, the concerned officer and clerks who issued the wrong cheque have been given a show cause notice and necessary administrative action is being taken against them," he said.
Earlier in the day, the PMO said in another release that the bouncing of the cheque of Rs 10,000 issued by the district collector to the farmer's widow was due to "local issues" and not on account of lack of money in the PMNRF.
"The cheque under reference was issued by the local district authorities in Maharashtra, and not honoured because of local issues, and not on account of any delay in release of funds from PMNRF," Baru said.
Reacting to news reports in this regard, he said the district authorities were taking action to disburse relief in cash immediately.
