New Delhi: An Indian diplomat has turned out to be spy for Pakistan. Second secretary-level diplomat Madhuri Gupta working in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad has been arrested for allegedly passing on information to Pakistani intelligence agencies.

Gupta had been working at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad for nearly three years and is alleged to have partially leaked India's plans in Afghanistan.

The 53-year-old Second Secretary (Media and Information) at the Islamabad mission was interrogated last week by Intelligence Bureau officers in New Delhi. She was recently promoted from an Urdu interpreter to a Second Secretary in the Press and Information department. She has allegedly been passing on some important papers to the ISI since 2008.

She was called back to India last Thursday, on pretext of discussing ongoing SAARC summit in Bhutan. After interrogation, she was handed over to Delhi Police on Friday.

Sources say she not only partially leaked India's plans in Afghanistan, but she was also meeting ISI officers, made 'dead drops' and also sent e-mails to handlers from fake accounts.

A single woman, she had been posted in Baghdad, Kuala Lumpur and an UN mission in Africa.
