CHENNAI: A 40-year-old woman surrendered before the police after bumping off her husband with the help of a family friend and two others in Vadapalani on Thursday. She told the police that her alcoholic and wayward husband had sold her inherited property worth Rs 8 crore and subjected her to unbearable sexual assaults.
Prasanna (45), son of yesteryear smalltime film actor Nambi, ran a chicken stall at VOC First Cross Street. He was found dead at the couple's residence in Vadapalani. Uma Maheshwari told police that, on her request, her family friend Sampath and two others reached their house around 3am on Thursday and murdered Prasanna when their children Aishwarya (16) and Akash (13) were fast asleep.According to her, she stepped outside the house as the men attempted to strangulate Prasanna. The trio later dragged an unconscious Prasanna to the lobby and gave him electric shocks.

The men left after the murder and a panicked Maheshwari approached councillor of ward 121, Pushparuth, who handed her over to Vadapalani police around 7.30 am.

In her confession, Uma Maheshwari told police that her husband sold off her inherited property and gold worth around `8 crore to spend lavishly on women and alcohol. Prasanna also demanded her to change the ownership of her house worth `2 crore to him, after his chicken business run into losses. She also alleged that he would often watch porn films at home and sexually assault her.
