The prize money may have gone up, but Wimbeldon remains the only Grand Slam where woman don't get the same amount as men.

Wimbledon: Wimbledon remains the only Grand Slam tournament that pays the men's champion more than the women's winner.

The All England Club announced on Tuesday that the men's winner will receive £655,000 (US$1.170 million) and the women’s champion will get £625,000 (US$1.117 million). That's a 4 per cent increase for both in British currency.

Overall, prize money for this summer's tournament will be £10.378 million (US$18.549;), a 2.9 percent increase over last year's total.

The French Open announced earlier this month that it would pay equal prize money to the men's and women's champions for the first time, although the total fund remains greater for the men.

The two other Grand Slam tournaments—the Australian and U.S. Opens—have paid equal prize money for years.
