New Delhi: The Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University has said he will cooperate with officials appointed to conduct an inquiry into alleged charges of financial, administrative and academic irregularities against him.
“I am known for integrity [and] we will show the records of what happened before and after I took over,” R.L. Hangloo, VC, Allahabad University, said over the phone.
But if the charges are proved wrong he would file a defamation suit against those who complained.
“I will certainly take them on," he added.
A national daily reported that President Pranab Mukherjee has given the nod to the Human Resources Development Ministry for a probe against Hangloo.
Venu Rajamony, press secretary, Rashtrapati Bhawan refused to comment on the issue when contacted.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has also sought the President's assent for an inquiry against the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University Zameer Uddin Shah, who is accused of illegal appointments to posts that do not exist.
He is accused of spending Rs. 10 lakh per month on his security and academic irregularities of Rs. 70 lakh.
The Ministry will issue a show cause-notice and if Hangloo is unable to provide satisfactory replies there will be a visitorial inquiry.
The Allahabad VC said that he had not yet received any formal communication about the inquiry.
