Midnapore: The CCTV footage on Sunday revealed that Trinamool Congress youth wing members thrashed a college student to death in West Midnapore.
The student was allegedly lynched to death during a clash between student unions of Congress and TMC over felicitation of state minister Soumen Kumar Mahapatra at a college at Sabang in West Midnapore.
Krishna Prasad Jana, a third year student of BA at Sabang Sajanikanta College, was also a supporter of the Congress party.
The youth wing of the Congress and the Left also called a strike across the state protesting against the incident.
Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, a police officer said but did not reveal their political affiliations.
Refuting allegations of involvement of his party's youth members in the incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that TMC workers were not involved in the case and the student died due to an internal feud within Congress youth wing.
