Horror Story: Revisiting Karan Kundrra’s Chilling Debut In Vikram Bhatt's Horror Flick

Karan Kundrra recently celebrated his 40th birthday with friends and family. Today, he is a known face in reality TV shows, daily soaps and films. Karan Kundrra debuted in Bollywood with the film Horror Story. It was directed by Ayush Raina and written by Vikram Bhatt. Failed at the box office after its release, the film Horror Story is still watched by numerous cinema enthusiasts on the OTT platforms. The film was released 11 years ago in theatres.

Apart from Karan Kundrra, the film starred Radhika Menon, Nishant Singh Malkani, Ravish Desai, Hasan Zaidi, Aparna Bajpai, Nandini Vaid and Sheetal Singh in the lead roles. Before the film’s release, Vikram Bhatt stated that he never wanted Horror Story to contain any songs or sex scenes. The prime reason for not casting any big stars for the film and turning to Karan Kundrra for the lead role is that Vikram Bhatt believed that the renowned stars of that time would be unable to turn the audience fearful. He deemed it necessary to make a hardcore horror film. Before the release of Horror Story, Karan Kundrra did only one Punjabi film titled Pure Punjabi.

This horror film is based on the story of seven friends who enter an abandoned hotel together in the name of thrill and adventure. The hotel was initially a mental asylum which was almost destroyed in a fire. The ruins were refurbished into a five-star hotel. They entered the hotel through the back door as the main door was locked. After reaching there, strange incidents start taking place in the hotel. The group flees in panic and realises that they are trapped inside the hotel no way out.

After reaching the hotel, many people disappear, while many people escape and come out, but watch the film to see who escapes and who stays in the hotel. The group learns that when the hotel was a mental asylum, a possessed girl named Maya was admitted after she murdered her entire family. Maya would always claim to have ‘married the devil’ and become very violent at the hospital, even killing the doctors and causing the fire that broke out and killed all the inmates. The group thus realises that it is Maya who is haunting them.
