Eranad MLA P K Basheer said that the sports lovers would construct a Rs 20 lakh worth house for Olympian K T Irfan. He was talking at a reception accorded to Irfan in his home town, Kuniyil on Monday. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb inaugurated the programme.
“The Kerala government is ready to give job to K T Irfan in the Sports Department.
The government will also give all other supports to Irfan. We are willing to provide best coaching facility and coaches for the Olympian,” P K Abdu Rabb said.
People in Kuniyil organised the reception to their local hero. Irfan reached the Karipur International Airport at 1pm. The celebrations started from there itself. He reached his home town from the airport in an open jeep. People thronged on the roadside to see the Olympic hero. Irfan alighted from the jeep when it reached the Kuniyil village. He walked through the crowd to reach the venue. But the crowd lifted him on their shoulders and reached the venue. “I sweat more here than I sweated during my 20 kilometre walk race competition in London. I am very happy to be here,” Irfan said at the reception function. His little sister sat on his lap throughout the programme. His parents also attended the function. The function was held at Anwar Public School, where Irfan studied. The mob distributed sweets to the eople gathered at the function.
