Voegele defeats Zakopalova in Linz
Stefanie Voegele won the last eight games to beat Klara Zakopalova 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 and advance to the second round of the Generali Ladies.

Linz: Stefanie Voegele won the last eight games to beat Klara Zakopalova 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 on Monday and advance to the second round of the Generali Ladies.

Voegele failed to serve out the second set at 5-3 as Zakopalova leveled at 5-5 but the 58th-ranked Swiss player didn't concede a game afterward. Zakopalova lost her serve eight times and saved 19 more break points.

The result ended Voegele's seven-match winless streak on the WTA tour, which started in the second round at Stanford in July.

Earlier, Elina Svitolina and Francesca Schiavone earned straight-set wins to also reach the second round. The 44th-ranked Svitolina defeated Mona Barthel 6-2, 7-5 after the German double-faulted eight times and dropped five service games.

Schiavone hit four aces in beating Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-2. The top-seeded player in Linz is ninth-ranked Angelique Kerber, who was given a late wildcard entry to replace Petra Kvitova of after the former Wimbledon champion pulled out with a back injury.

In another match, Camila Giorgi of Italy upset 2012 runner-up Julia Goerges of Germany 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. The 105th-ranked Giorgi won three qualifying matches to reach the main draw. She next plays fifth-seeded Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium, who rallied past 17-year-old Donna Vekic of Croatia 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
