CHENNAI: A high profile team from Virginia Tech University in the USA, led by Guru Ghosh, associate vice president of International Affairs, along with Dr Ranagaswamy Muniappan, programme director, Integrated Pest Management Collaborative Research Support Programme and Dr. Kevin Desouza, associate professor, Centre for Public Administration and Policy from Virigina Tech, visited TANUVAS on April 24 under the MoA existing between the two universities. Dr R Prabakaran, Vice-Chancellor TANUVAS, explained the activities of the university and the students and faculty exchange programme operating under the MoA. Presently four faculty members of TANUVAS are visiting Virigina Tech for research on Regenerative Medicine and Virology. This research will facilitate stem cell therapeutics for pet animals and the understanding of the pathogenesis of emerging viral diseases. The dignitaries were highly impressed by the commitment of the TANUVAS faculty and the mobility of the students. They introduced the concept of Peri-Urban Centres to cater to the changing demand of the people migrating from rural to urban areas and the expertise they bring which would be harnessed for the betterment of urban society and animals.
