New York: In Mens Singles, sixth seed Andy Murray stunned the world number one Rafael Nadal in the semifinals to reach the first Grand Slam Final of his career. This win now pits him against Roger Federer who is looking for his fifth consecutive US open title.
7-6, 2-3 was the scoreline in favour of Andy Murray when play resumed at the Arther Ashe stadium, a struggling world number one Rafael Nadal was rescued by the tropical storm Hanna on Saturday and lived another day to fight for a place in the finals.
A refreshed Nadal consolidated his lead in the third set to take it 6-4.
The Spanaird then broke his opponent to take a 3-1 lead in the fourth set, but an aggressive Murray produced some powerful ground strokes to outplay Rafa.
And with this backhand winner the 21-year-old Briton battered into submission the French Open, Wimbledon and Olympic champion, 6-2, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. This stunning victory clinched the sixth seeded Murray a date with defending champion Roger Federer.
A rejuvenated Federer is eyeing his first Grand Slam title this year, the world number two made short work of Novak Djokovic in their semifinal clash on Saturday.
"I definitely had moments during today where I thought, this is how I would like to play every time. So it was a very nice feeling, actually, to get that feeling back," said Federer.
Now Murray has managed to get the better of Federer in two out of three meetings so far all on hard court. But all Fed-ex will be concentrating on is how to lay his hand on the 13th Grand Slam title.
