UP officials asked to keep criminals behind bars
The government said district and police officers should work in co-ordination and communal harmony must be maintained.

Lucknow: Facing flak over law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Saturday directed senior officials to take stern action against criminals and keep them behind bars.

The directive was issued by Chief Secretary Javed Usmani.

Usmani issued the directive during a meeting to review development works and law and order with divisional commissioners, IGs, DIGs and other senior officials.

State BJP on Saturday attacked the government citing several recent incidents in which police officials were involved.

"The CM should make arrangements to put a control on those becoming challenge for law and order situation in the state," BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.

Usmani said district and police officers should work in co-ordination and communal harmony must be maintained at all cost.

The CS said in case even if a small incidents comes to light immediate and effective action should be taken to prevent it from turning into a major one.

He also directed the officials to ensure that farmers get fertilisers at old rates, and maximum participation of women in MNREGA should be ensured.

Fund has been released for construction of buildings of 8,503 new primary schools, 739 higher primary schools and 49,335 additional classrooms, said Usmani.
