UP: Murder accused was strangled to death, says autopsy
Prisoner's family had alleged that he was tortured by police during his three-day illegal detention, due to which he suffered injuries and died.

Ghaziabad: The autopsy report of the murder suspect who allegedly hanged himself in police custody in Ghaziabad on Sunday has revealed that he was strangled to death. Additional Director General (ADG) of Uttar Pradesh Police Arun Kumar said on Monday: "Five Indirapuram police station personnel have been suspended and a case of murder has been filed against unidentified people."

He said that Inspector Gorakh Nath Yadav, Sub-inspector Rajvir Singh, night sentries Chetan Yadav and Ram Chandra and night clerk Tota Ram have been suspended with immediate effect. Vineesh Sharma, 30, a resident of Aligarh, was found dead in the police lockup in Indirapuram police station here around 5.30 am, police said.

A case has been registered against unidentified people. Departmental and magisterial inquiries are being conducted. Vineesh's family had alleged that he was tortured by police during his three-day illegal detention, due to which he suffered injuries and died.

Police had claimed that he hanged himself with a blanket in the lockup. Vineesh was picked up by the Ghaziabad police after a robbery-cum-double-murder at the Central Industrial Security Force complex in the city.

Vineesh was a brother-in-law of Suresh Sharma and his wife Bubbli, who were found murdered in their CISF Complex house April 24, 2013. Police had picked up Vineesh from Aligarh and recovered a motorcycle, a gold chain and a ring belonging to the couple.

Vineesh was to be presented in court on Sunday but when a security guard peeped inside the lockup in the early hours, he found him hanging with a blanket from the window bar of the lockup, police said.
