CHENNAI: The seventh annual general body meeting of the United Retirees’ Association was held in K K Nagar on Sunday. The United Retirees’ Association works for the rights and privileges of the senior citizens, who are bereft of care and comfort. It gives legal assistance and social support to the needy. Dr Padmini recited the prayer and S Rajamanickam , the president, welcomed the gathering. Dr Thamizhisai Soundararajan gave the keynote address. Highlighting the significance of health in our life, she stressed that health was primary and materialism secondary. She exhorted the public to have a master health check-up and wanted everyone to have a health insurance policy, in case of emergencies. Pointing out the amount of stress in everyday life, she gave clinical tips on how to get rid of stress. She spoke about the intake of anti-oxidants such as germinated millets, pulses, oats and palm sugar that help to keep our body tissues intact and prevent them from aging. Since diabetes is on the increase in the sub-continent she suggested people stay away from fast food and junk food. Aranga Narayanan spoke about the progress of the association since its formation. Dr V R Chandra Mohan proposed the vote of thanks.
