While the spectacular beauty of Kumbalangi has always been a veritable treat for both domestic and international tourists, those reaching the coastal village during Onam this year will be party to a novel experience.
They will get an opportunity to be a part of the team which prepares traditional delicacies this season.
Onam celebration in Kumbalangi Tourism Village, scheduled from August 26 to 30 at Kumbalangi park, is being organised by the Kumbalangi Model Tourism Society of the grama panchayat in association with the Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC).
Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas will inaugurate the celebrations on August 26. The festivities will be marked by musical programmes, tug-of-war, stage performances of the state’s traditional art forms and various other competitions.“Usually, we serve Onasadhya and other ethnic delicacies to foreigners.
But in Kumbalangi, they are offered a chance to take part in the preparation of food, which would be a different experience for them,” said KMTS president M P Sivadathan.
It is the second time Kumbalangi is offering this experience to tourists.
“Tourists were allowed to join local people in the preparation of food last year. We should let them get a feel of Kumbalangi life,” he said.
A tug-of-war competition between locals and foreigners will be another attraction.
