New Delhi: It is his 31st birthday on April 19 and Jason Gillespie celebrated it in style - by scoring a double hundred against Bangladesh in the second Test.

Gillespie played 425 balls in his stay of 527 minutes at the crease to score his maiden double hundred.

After a forgettable Ashes last year he was dropped from the Australian team, but this effort with the bat has surely put all that behind.

His 201 not out at Chittagong makes him the highest run-scoring nightwatchman and the the first one to get a double hundred.

He batted on all four days and hit 26 fours and two sixes.

Australia meanwhile have declared their first innings at 581 for 4, with a first innings lead of 384 runs.

Gillespie became the highest run-scoring nightwatchman as he beat the previous record of 105 set by Australia's Tony Mann in December 1977 against India.

Gillespie and Hussey put up a fourth-wicket partnership of 320 runs before Hussey was removed by Aftab Ahmed, after Shahadat Hossain caught him at square-leg boundary line.
