Tree Bank goes green on Gandhi Jayanthi

City-based NGO Tree Bank Trust celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi on Tuesday by planting trees in various areas.

Members pledged to plant and nurture trees in Saligramam, Gandhi Nagar, Kambar Street and Thiruvallur Salai. The plan is to plant trees in 200 wards of the city through 200 branches of the Tree Bank.

Each group planted one sapling in their area in honour of the birth anniversary of the father of our nation. Interestingly, instead of sweets, residents of the neighbourhood were given nine types of vegetable seeds to plant and grow in their homes.

K Mullaivanam of the Tree Bank Trust spoke about the importance of having trees around residential areas and how each person could make a difference. He gifted the saplings to the residents.

Students of Alpha Arts and Science College in Porur were also a part of the proceedings.
