CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated four new office buildings for the Transport Department and two centres for selection of drivers, constructed at a cost of Rs 4.50 crore. She declared the buildings open through a video-conference from the Secretariat.The buildings include a building and centre for selection of drivers for the Ranipet RTO office, a centre for selection of drivers for the Vaniyambadi office, a building for the TRO office at Chengleput, a building for the Deputy Transport Commissioner at Virudhunagar and a building for Rasipuram unit. The CM also unveiled the Keezhanai bridge across Coleroon river and the sluice gates of Keezhanai repaired at a cost of Rs 6.21 crore. The Keezhanai, constructed in 1836, was closed for traffic. Now, the bridge has been repaired at a cost of Rs 4 crore and the sluice gates have been repaired at a cost of Rs 2.21 crore, thus saving the travelling time and distance for the people.She also inaugurated the refurbished studio meant for film shooting, located at the MGR Film and Television Training Institute at Taramani. The air-conditioned studio, the biggest in Tamil Nadu, was renovated at a cost of Rs 1.43 crore. She also inaugurated this gallery, set up at cost of Rs 14 lakh, on Friday.
