THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of extending the Souhrida Clubs in Higher Secondary schools, the training programme for the higher secondary teachers, who are the club coordinators, began here on Thursday.   The clubs which have been formed to improve the physical, academic, social and interpersonal skills of adolescents and to lead them towards a successful adulthood, are now present in 125 schools and is being extended to 700 government and aided schools across the state.   Theprogramme was inaugurated at a function held at Chaithram Hotel here by Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb. Speaking at the function he observed that these clubs which aim at fostering camaraderie and friendship on school campuses would be something to cherish for the higher secondary school sector.   The State Government has allotted Rs 75 lakhs this fiscal for the clubs. The clubs are being run by the Career Guidance and Adolescent Counselling Cell of the Higher Secondary Department with the support of the Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society.Souhrida Clubs conduct awareness classes on physical, mental, and social issues faced by the students. The clubs have the participation of both teachers and students. It is learnt that help desks would be set up with the support of Mahila Samakhya Society. All students of a school are members of the club and it is headed by the principal and a teacher.  It has been decided to hold health camps in all schools taking the service of three doctors. The clubs will be opened in all schools in the state in the long run. The training programme will conclude on Friday.
