VELLORE/TIRUVANNAMALAI: Vellore district recorded an average of 52 mm rainfall till Saturday, due to the cyclonic storm Thane. Sholinghur received the highest rainfall of 84 mm, followed by Kaveripakkam (72), Arakkonam (70), Vellore (64), Alangayam (55), Tirupattur (49), Arcot (46), Wallajah (41), Gudiyattam (40), Melalathur (39)and  Ambur (34).Tiruvannamalai on the other hand recorded 100 mm rainfall. Cheyyar, Polur and Chengam leading with 117 mm, followed by Sathanur (113), Arni (97), Vandavasi (107) and Tiruvannamalai town (93). Life in this district was partially effected due to power cuts as many uprooted trees fell on the electric posts. Banana plantation in Inamkariyanthal village was also damaged due to rains. Farming was also affected in many parts of the district.
