Tight vigil ahead of Sekaran anniversary

As many as 5,000 police personnel and 100 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men would be deployed here in view of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran’s birth anniversary on Monday.

Around 11 check posts have been set up in different parts of the district, said a statement from the government. Similarly, 23 surveillance cameras have been installed at vital points in Paramakudi.

Apart from these, 20 ambulances, five medical teams, 14 fire brigade teams and 15 accident rescue teams would kept be on stand-by.

Traffic diversions have also been announced for vehicles going in and out of Paramakudi on the memorial day.

Time table for visitors

The administration has also announced a specific time-table to be followed by political leaders and functionaries of various organisations to pay their respects at Sekaran’s memorial.

The leaders included AIADMK minister Sundarajan, DMK’s Rithish Kumar, VCK’s Thol. Thirumavalavan and Naam Tamizhar Iyakkam’s Seeman.

Security in Madurai

The Madurai police too have intensified security arrangements in the city and the outskirts. Round the clock security has been provided to all statues — which have been covered — of leaders. Check posts, with over 50 police personnel led by a DSP each, have also come up at all the entrance routes to Madurai.
