HYDERABAD: Mercury touched 42.3 degree celsius in the twin cities on Thursday making it the hottest day of the year so far. And what more, according to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, it is likely to go past the 43 mark on Friday.“The temperatures in the city are expected to shoot up to 44 degree celsius before May 20 as the dry weather prevails and radiation from the sun is at its peak due to the summer,” said S Venkateswara Rao, assistant meteorologist, Hyderabad Meteorological Centre. The reason for the fluctuation in the weather is due to factors like the inflow of dry winds from the north leaving a ‘dry spell’ in the region and the occasional evening showers caused due to the upper air trough flowing from Vidarbha to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana. However, the weather is expected to turn moderate after this week with the revival of thunderstorm showers in the coming days prior to the onset of monsoon which is expected to arrive on time.“It is expected to strike by June 5 as usual,” the assistant meteorologist said.
