Three Naxals were arrested and two high ranking cadres, including a woman, surrendered in separate places of Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bastar region, police said on Wednesday.

Intensive search and combing operations in the LWE (left wing extremism) areas has resulted in more arrests of red rebels during the ongoing Martyrs' week being observed by them from July 28 to August 3, a senior police official told PTI.

Cadre, Gangaram alias Rupesh Korram (22), who was involved in several deadly attacks on security forces, was apprehended from Jharaghati police station limits of Narayanpur district last night, the official said. A joint team of CAF (Chhattisgarh Armed Force) and district force was dispatched from Jharaghati police station towards restive Kaushalnar forests on an area domination exercise.

Korram was nabbed from Kaushalnar Patelpara village forests while he was trying to flee from the area, he said. He was involved in several incidents of crimes,including killing of 27 CRPF personnel near Rakas nullah and murder of five police jawans after abducting a bus in 2010,killing of three CAF jawans near Hathibeda forests last year and other incidents, the official, said, adding, he was carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head.

In another incident, a warranty cadre-Sagru Nareti was arrested from Tadoki police station limits of Kanker district today by a joint team of BSF (Border Security Force) and district force, he said. Besides, a rebel was arrested from Mardapal police station limits of Kondagaon district.

Acting on a tip-off, Dhansingh (40), a member of Kudur Janmilitia group of Maoist, was held from his relative's place Matwal village on Tuesday night, he said.

In another success for the police, two senior-level Maoists, including a woman, surrendered in Bijapur district on Wednesday. Those who surrendered - Ramu Kadti (39) and Fagni Warsa (25) said they were disappointed with the high-handedness of senior cadres, exploitation of tribal women and atrocities on tribals by them, the official claimed.

Ramu, the head of Janatana Sarkar Committee and a prominent member of Indravati Area Committee of Mad division, associated with the outlawed movement in 1998. Subsequently, he was elevated to senior position in the outfit the subsequent year.

After joining the movement in 2005, the women cadre Fagni, has been basically engaged in the spreading of the Maoist ideology and their propaganda in the region, the official said. They will be rehabilitated as per the policies of the state government,he added.

The call for observing martyrs' week has hit the normal life in the Bastar region as transporters have stopped plying buses to the remote areas. Railways too are not running the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul train beyond Jagdalpur during the week, fearing Naxal attacks, forcing commuters to travel by bus from Jagdalpur to Kirandul.
