The Central Bureau of Investigation conducted the polygraph test on the main accused involved in the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, Sanjay Roy on Sunday and also conducted raids at the residences of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and several others.
When asked if they have found any concrete evidence pertaining to the case, one of the CBI officials said, “Bahut kuch hai…” (A lot is there). In a reply to the reporters asking him the case updates, the official also said, “We will send you the press note.”
A CBI team conducted raids at former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh’s residence on Sunday, a day after the central probe agency filed an FIR in connection with financial irregularities at the Hospital.
Currently, the CBI is also conducting searches at multiple locations as part of the ongoing probe into financial irregularities.
After a special court in Kolkata allowed the CBI to conduct the polygraph test, the CBI on Saturday conducted the test on six individuals, including Sandip Ghosh, in connection with the Kolkata rape and murder case. A team of polygraph specialists flown to Kolkata from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi conducted the tests.
The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s (ACJM) court in Sealdah also approved the CBI’s request on Thursday to conduct a lie detector test on the controversial former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and five others in connection with the case.
Of the total seven individuals involved, one is a close associate of Roy, a civic volunteer, while the remaining four are postgraduate medical students of RG Kar who were on duty at the hospital on the night of August 8-9.
The civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police, Roy (33) was arrested by the Kolkata Police on August 10, a day after the body of the 31-year-old medic was found in the seminar hall of the medical college.
he Calcutta High Court on August 13 ordered the transfer of the probe from the Kolkata Police to the CBI.
Meanwhile, CBI sleuths launched simultaneous search operations on the premises of Ghosh, ex-medical superintendent and vice principal of the RGKMCH Sanjay Vashisth and 13 others in and around Kolkata in connection with their probe into alleged financial irregularities at the institute, officials said.
CBI also searched the residences and offices of those engaged in supplying materials for the management and care of patients.
Sunday was the 17th consecutive day that the junior doctors have been on cease work badly affecting healthcare services in Bengal. The gruesome crime resulted in nationwide protests by doctors and citizens.
