THRISSUR: A social activist moved the Thrissur Vigilance Court on Monday seeking removal of IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary from office, just days after he was reinstated in service. P D Joseph, a social activist, filed the petition challenging the decision of the state government to reinstate Thachankary. The petitioner argued that Thachankary’s re-induction was against the rules as the Central Government’s bid to prosecute him in a case related to his alleged foreign trip was pending. He also argued that the state government’s report that it had approached the Central Government to prosecute him in the case was a false affidavit.Vigilance Court Judge V Bhaskaran directed the legal advisor of the state government to submit a report on the matter on April 26. It was on Thursday that Thachankary, who had been under suspension from service since January 12, rejoined service. He was placed under suspension in the context of a probe against him by the NIA. The allegation against him was that he had made contacts with fundamentalist outfits during his visits to foreign countries. Thachankary is already facing trial in the Thrissur Vigilance Court in a disproportionate assets case. The court  posted the case to April 30 for further hearing.
