CHENNAI: Tequila and travel don’t usually go well together. But for Mexican beauty Elisa Najera, who is visiting India for the first time, the desi trip is all thanks to generous sips of her favourite Corralejo Tequila. Formerly Miss Mexico 2008, Najera was in Chennai recently to release the Corralejo Teqnic Book, an outcome of the brand’s Teqnicians Mixology Challenge 2012. “I’ve never been to India before this,” she says, stepping out of the party at Dublin, ITC Park Sheraton & Towers, for a chat with City Express. Mostly, she admits, it’s been one hotel stop after the next. “So there hasn’t been much time for sightseeing or shopping in Chennai,” she says, but quickly adds with a laugh, “My idlis and coconut chutney are enough for me.”However, the dusky model does mention in retrospect, “I definitely want to buy a silk sari before I go home.”So far Najera has made stops at Calcutta, Pune, Bombay and New Delhi for the finals of the competition. What’s been her most memorable experience in India? “The Taj Mahal just amazed me – I will never forget!” she gushes, and despite her broken English, her awe is evident. Unfortunately, with so much of plane hopping the 25-year-old reveals that she still hasn’t had a chance to watch any of our Rajinikanth blockbusters en route. Asked about whether she would be interested in trying her hand at Kollywood if offered a chance, there is no hesitation. “Yes, if I were approached to do a film, I would love to,” she smiles candidly. And given the fact that dancing is one of her first loves, this international beauty would probably fit right in. Although, at 6’1’’ chances are may she may just tower over some of our South Indian heroes! For the moment Najera is enjoying a taste of Indian culture. And let’s not forget several tastings of tequila cocktail creations along the way. With close to 250 participants in the mixologist challenge from across the country it has certainly been a wild ride. “At the finals I tasted about 15 different cocktails, all in one evening!” Najera exclaims. She giggles and indicates a small measure with her fingers. “But just a little bit of each, okay?”
