KOCHI: The Ernakulam NIA Special Court on Thursday framed charges against suspected LeT south India commander Thadiyantavide Nazir, also an accused in the Bangalore serial blasts case, and 17 other accused in the Kashmir recruitment case.Special Court Judge S Vijaykumar read out the charges and the case was posted to February 15 to decide on the date on which the trial should commence. The NIA has submitted a list of 298 witnesses before the court. The case relates to the enrolment of several youths from Kerala for anti-national activities. The chargesheet said the accused, including five youths - Fayas, Fayis, Abdul Rahim, Muhammed Yasin (Accused 7 to 10) - and Abdul Jabbar (Accused 15), under the leadership of the 23rd accused Sarfaraz Nawaz, Thadiyantavide Nazir and Pakistani national Wali conspired to incite, facilitate and advocate terrorism thereby waging war against the nation. Later, four of them were killed in an encounter with the Indian security forces. The accused had conducted Thareeqath classes at Neerchal, Poothappara, Kanhangad Mosque, Karutha Makkath, Chettipadi, Kalamassery Falcon Industrial building, Kaniyapuram Abdul Razzaq Valiyullahi Maqam, Kaloor Juma Masjid Shopping Complex, Hyderabad and Jamiya Nooriya Darga. The classes were conducted under the leadership of Nazir and Abdul Jaleel. Wali was the mastermind behind the Kashmir recruitment episode. He had arranged funds to carry out anti-national activities in India, the chargesheet said.C E Abdul Hameed, an accused in the Kashmir recruitment case impersonating as Mohammed Yusuf, received the accused in New Delhi and arranged accommodation for them till they proceeded to Kashmir to get further training under the Lashker-e-Toiba. Hameed had arranged accommodation for the accused at Salim Manzil Guest House near Hazarat Nizamuddin railway station on September 13, 2008. He also arranged accommodation for Mohammed Sabir alias Ayub, an absconding accused, and his family, in his own house at Yamuna Vihar, Delhi. The youths then moved on to Kashmir and stayed in a lodge near Dal lake. Later, a Kashmiri girl, Parveen, led the youths to the LeT camp in the Lolab jungle from Srinagar, the chargesheet stated. There are a total of 24 accused in the case, including four Keralites who were killed in Kashmir. The youths recruited in 2006 were given arms training to wage war against India, the chargesheet said.Muhammad Sabir and Wali, the main link between the LeT and the Keralites, are absconding. Eighteen accused in the case are facing the first-phase of trial. There was tight security on the court premises as Nazir and Shafas, along with the other accused, were brought there.
