CHENNAI: It was a discourse with a difference as management guru from United States took a leaf out of history in explaining the importance of strategic decisions in changing the boundaries of a firm.Delivering Madras Management Association lecture on “Can you tell which decisions are strategic”, Ram Shivakumar, clinical professor of economics and strategy at the Booth School of Business (GSB) at the university of Chicago, on Saturday cited the success of Apple founder Steve Jobs whose firm was dismissed by corporates like Dell as a one product wonder and said strategy and commitment are crucial to success.“It is the hallmark of genius to find where the next big thing is,” he said of Jobs while citing examples from history as he took examples of Aztec civilization and US history on how people like George Washington took key strategic decisions at the right moment.
