A case filed against Liz Hurley and Arun Nayar slams their second marriage as an act that contempts Hindu religion.

Jodhpur (Rajasthan): A court recorded the statement of a man who filed a case against British model Liz Hurley and her husband Arun Nayar alleging that their second marriage according to Hindu traditions amounted to an attack on the religion.

After recording the statement of the complainant, 44-year-old Vishnu Khandelwal, Judicial Magistrate Hari Vallabh Khatri fixed April 9 as the date for recording the statements of other witnesses.

Khandelwal filed the complaint against the celebrity couple under two different sections of the Indian Penal Code four days after their second marriage at the majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace here on March 9.

His counsel, H M Saraswat, said Khandelwal had stated that since Hurley and Nayar had married in Britain in accordance with Christian rituals and started living as husband and wife, there was no reason to perform the marriage again according to Hindu traditions.

This was done with the intention of hurting Hindus and maligning the spiritual sanctity of the religion and Indian mythology, Khandelwal claimed. He also stated in court that this was a "deliberate and malicious act" intended to outrage the feelings of Hindus by insulting their religious and ritualistic beliefs.

Religions and rituals are not casual things that can be used for the entertainment or fun, Saraswat said. Khandelwal asked the court to take strong action to restrict the repetition of such "indecent incidents".
